Author Guidelines

The editorial board of Ishraqat Tanmawya aims to raise the journal’s impact factor and to prepare it for inclusion in international indexing databases. The journal therefore publishes research in the humanities that is scientifically rigorous, adds to knowledge, is written in sound language and is accurately documented, according to the following conditions.

Submission requirements

  1. The paper must not have been published in, or submitted to, another journal, and must not be part of a previously published paper or thesis. Authors sign a declaration to this effect, agree not to submit the paper elsewhere after publication, and transfer publication rights to the journal if the paper is accepted.
  2. Papers must not exceed 8,000 words, including references and appendices.
  3. The author’s name, or anything that identifies the author, must not appear in the body of the paper, to keep the review blind and impartial.
  4. The first page must include: the title; the author’s name, academic rank and degree; the author’s affiliation and address; the author’s email; and two abstracts, one in Arabic and one in English (font size 12), each with the author’s name and affiliation. Papers written in English must include an Arabic abstract of no more than 200 words, preceded by the title, author name and affiliation in Arabic.
  5. Papers are prepared in Microsoft Word, using Simplified Arabic for Arabic papers and Times New Roman for English papers, size 12 for body text and size 14 for headings.
  6. The journal follows the APA style for citation and referencing. Authors must follow its rules for quotation, referencing and research ethics.
  7. References are listed on separate page(s) in this order: author surname, first name. (Year). Title. Edition. Publisher. City.
  8. A short biography of the author (no more than four lines) is submitted as a separate Word file.
  9. All papers are checked for plagiarism with Turnitin. Papers whose similarity exceeds internationally accepted limits are rejected.
  10. The editorial board carries out an initial screening to decide whether a paper is eligible for review, and may decline a paper without giving reasons.
  11. The journal uses double-blind peer review: each paper is sent to two specialist reviewers, one from inside Iraq and one from abroad, chosen in strict confidence. Papers are also reviewed by a language editor.
  12. Papers that reviewers accept subject to revisions are returned to their authors for revision. Rejected papers are not returned.
  13. Papers drawn from master’s or doctoral theses require the written approval of the supervisor, using the journal’s form.
  14. Published papers express the views of their authors, not those of the journal.
  15. The journal publishes special issues for scientific conferences within its scope.
  16. Publication fees: no fees are charged to researchers from outside Iraq. The fee for researchers from inside Iraq is 100,000 Iraqi dinars.
  17. Papers can be submitted in person at the journal’s office (Palestine Street, Al-Mawal intersection, opposite Al-Mustansiriya University, Baghdad), through the journal website, or by email to al.tanmeia2016@yahoo.com.
